RedAlert Acceptable Use Policy

1. Purpose and scope

RedAlert is a place to share useful safety information and follow conditions in areas you choose. This policy governs reports, media, support messages, account activity, and other use of the RedAlert Services operated by MIRA Safety, LLC. It forms part of the Terms of Service at https://redalertus.com/legal/terms-of-service.

Reports and messages are not emergency calls. If anyone faces immediate danger, call 911 in the United States or the appropriate local emergency number. Do not wait for RedAlert moderation or support.

2. Report carefully and honestly

Provide information you reasonably believe is accurate. Describe what you observed, when and where it happened, and what is uncertain. Distinguish a firsthand observation from a rumor, a news article, or an older event. Do not claim to have verified something you have not checked.

Use the correct location and an appropriate category. Do not move a report to a different place, exaggerate severity, submit staged incidents as real, or present old media as a current event. Correct a material mistake through an available report feature or contact support with the report reference.

A good-faith mistake is different from deliberate deception. We may nevertheless correct, restrict, or remove mistaken information to protect users and the usefulness of the Services.

3. Prohibited content and behavior

You must not:

  • Knowingly submit false, fabricated, prank, or misleading incident reports, coordinated disinformation, or material intended to trigger unnecessary panic or misuse emergency resources.
  • Impersonate a public authority, emergency responder, another person, or RedAlert personnel; claim a false official endorsement; or use another person's account without permission.
  • Threaten, stalk, harass, intimidate, or target people for abuse; promote violence or unlawful discrimination; or expose private information to encourage harassment.
  • Upload sexual exploitation material, child sexual abuse material, nonconsensual intimate imagery, or other unlawful content. Do not use report submission to redistribute such material, even as a purported warning.
  • Publish unnecessary private addresses, contact details, identifying documents, medical details, credentials, or other sensitive information about another person. A report must not expose more personal information than its legitimate safety purpose needs.
  • Upload content you lack the right to share, infringe intellectual-property rights, or misleadingly remove or alter attribution.
  • Encourage trespassing, dangerous stunts, interference with responders, entry into hazardous areas, illegal activity, or disregard of an official evacuation or shelter order.
  • Submit malware, exploit code intended to compromise the Services, phishing, scams, spam, or unrelated advertising; manipulate submission volume or account creation to disrupt moderation or delivery.
  • Probe, bypass, or defeat access controls, steal credentials, interfere with systems, or obtain nonpublic data without authorization. This does not prohibit research or other activity protected by law; contact [email protected] to coordinate responsible reporting.
  • Circumvent an account restriction, manipulate moderation decisions, or retaliate against someone who reports a concern.

4. Photos, videos, and location

Stay safe and respect the law when collecting evidence. Never take a photo, record a video, or operate the app while driving or while doing so would put anyone at risk. Do not obstruct responders or approach an incident merely to get better content.

Before uploading, check for unnecessary faces, license plates, private property details, and embedded metadata. Remove material that is not needed to understand the event. Do not assume that the upload process strips metadata.

Report coordinates may be precise and may be visible with an approved report. Avoid exposing a person's home or current whereabouts without a legitimate reason and appropriate rights. Publishing anonymously hides the author display label; it does not conceal report location, text, media, or the author from authorized administrators.

Do not submit graphic imagery merely for shock value. If evidence is genuinely relevant, use the least intrusive material necessary and follow available content warnings and upload limits. We may decline or remove media even when the underlying report remains available.

5. Review, publication, and enforcement

We review submissions through the applicable moderation workflow and may use technical safeguards, administrator review, and account restrictions to address abuse. We may ask for clarification, adjust a category or location, withhold or remove content, restrict media, limit features, suspend an account, or end access when necessary and lawful.

Action depends on the seriousness of the concern, the likelihood of harm, context, and repeated conduct. Severe safety, exploitation, or security concerns can result in immediate restrictions. Where appropriate and legally permitted, we explain the decision and offer a review process. An account restriction does not erase a person's privacy rights.

Approval or publication does not certify a submission's accuracy. Information can be changed or removed later. Removing a report or news item does not necessarily retract an alert already delivered or a third-party copy.

6. Report a concern or ask for review

Use an available in-app reporting control or contact [email protected]. Include the report, alert, or account reference; what you believe violates this policy; and enough context to identify the concern. Do not send passwords, verification codes, illegal imagery, or unnecessary sensitive information.

For an immediate threat, use emergency services first. For account support, visit https://redalertus.com/support. For a security issue, contact [email protected] without publicly disclosing exploitable details or personal information.

If we restrict your content or account and you believe we made a mistake, contact [email protected] with the decision reference and an explanation. We consider requests for review in good faith, subject to applicable law and legitimate safety or investigation limits.
